Scott Rowe
Chief Executive Officer
Scott serves as the hospital’s chief executive officer. He comes to Chattanooga from HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Florence, S.C., where he served in the same role for two years. Scott graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy. In 2002, he received a master’s degree in business administration from Francis Marion University with a Certificate in Health Management from the Medical University of South Carolina. Scott and his wife, Michelle, have two children, Caleb and Emalee Grace.

Dr. Amjad M. Munir
Medical Director
Dr. Munir is a board-certified physician with the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a sub-specialty in pain medicine and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. In addition to his work as a physiatrist, he is also a certified physical therapist. Dr. Munir completed his residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and his doctor of medicine was earned from Sind Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan.

Phil Mason, RN
Chief Nursing Officer
Phil has 16 years of experience in nursing. He began as an LPN graduate from Tri-county Vo-tech in Bartlesville, Okla., and went on to complete an associate's degree in nursing from Excelsior College. His bachelor's degree is from Covenant College in organizational management. He has earned certification status as a legal nurse consultant through the Vicky Milazzo Institute. Phil has functioned in regional senior management roles while continuing to work as a registered nurse in direct patient care in ER’s and ICU’s in the Chattanooga area. Phil’s wife is also a nurse. They have two children, Gannon and Paige.

Karen Jonakin
Director of Clinical Services
Karen has been with HealthSouth since 1989. She graduated from the University of North Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, and received a master’s degree in speech language pathology from the University of Tennessee. Her community service includes two terms as president of the Chattanooga Area Brain Injury Association, and one term as secretary of the Brain Injury Association of Tennessee. In addition, she serves as HealthSouth Corporation’s continuing education administrator for the American Speech Language Hearing Association.

Stephanie Ott, BSN, RN, CRRN
DMO
Stephanie has been with HealthSouth since 1994 and with the Chattanooga hospital since 2008. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She received additional certification in the specialty of rehabilitation nursing in 1995 and recertified in 2009. Her 18 year nursing career has been in direct patient care within the ICU and rehabilitation setting, healthcare sales and administration. Stephanie and her husband, Charles, have two children, Lainey and Tanner.

Karen Klassen
Chief Financial Officer
Karen has 16 years of health care experience. She began her career as a purchasing agent and then advanced to a staff accountant, where she managed expenses for the hospital and a surgery center. She received an associate’s degree from Chattanooga State and is working on a bachelor’s degree from Covenant College.

Deborah Hersom
Director of Human Resources
Deborah has more than 15 years of healthcare experience in various roles including EMT, midwifery and administration. She returned to HealthSouth as human resources director after receiving a bachelor's degree in organizational management from Covenant College in 2006. She also holds a bachelor's degree in christian education conferred by Freelandia Institute in 1984. Deborah and her husband, Bob, have two adult children: Aaron, who is employed by BCBS Tennessee; and April, a Cleveland City Police Officer.

Michelle Cowart, RN
Michelle has been with Healthsouth since 2008 and serves as the Director of Quality and Risk Management. She has 18 years experience as a registered nurse. Michelle graduated from Dalton College in 1992 with an associate’s degree in nursing. She has worked in various fields throughout her nursing career that include medical/surgical, dialysis, home health, emergency care and case management. Michelle and her husband, Johnny, have two children, Bethany and Sam.
